Barbara Curtis
Barbara represents clients in all aspects of Employment Law, Labor Law and Commercial Litigation. She has litigated cases to successful verdicts in all areas in both the State and Federal Courts, and is an experienced trial attorney.
Barbara received her undergraduate degree from the University of Massachusetts (cum laude), and her Juris Doctorate from Pace University School of Law, where she served as one of the first student prosecutors in the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office. Barbara’s legal career began as an Assistant District Attorney in the Bronx County District Attorney’s Office where she handled a large volume of criminal cases, including homicides, from arrest through jury trial. Barbara was subsequently employed by the Office of the Corporation Counsel for the City of New York, and was assigned to the Special Federal Litigation Bureau, where she handled Civil Rights and §1983 cases, and employment violation cases involving the NYC Police Department and other City agencies, from inception to trial in the United States District Courts.
Barbara transitioned into the private sector working for a boutique defense firm where she successfully handled a wide range of civil litigation matters, including Labor Law claims, Products Liability defense, Premises Liability, and a variety of Employment Law cases. Prior to joining Bonnist & Cutro, LLP, she was Of Counsel to Elefante & Persanis, LLP, where she handled cases involving Employment issues, including discrimination claims, Fair Labor Standards Act violations, contract claims and other related litigation matters. Barbara provides onsite supervisor and employee training to clients in the areas of Sexual Harassment, Employment Discrimination, Diversity, and compliance with local, state and federal laws, and is an Adjunct Professor of Labor Law at Iona College’s Hagan School of Business.
